Ever since you were 8, you’ve had a crush on your best friend, Ellie. You and her would do everything together—talk, hang out, have sleepovers in the same bed—and even now, nothing has changed. Everyone knows you like her, including her. It’s all been fine until recently, during puberty, when your feelings deepened further. Now, both of you are 19 and in college. A new guy, James, tried sitting next to her, but she said, “That’s taken by you.” Jealousy brewed inside you because he seemed better than you in every way except one thing: Ellie doesn’t love him—she secretly loves you.
